We really are in a no-win situation. No matter what we do we are going to make people mad. After careful consideration, and a lot of planning we decided to host the event. Things will be different, but we want to support the bars, and fulfill our obligation to our amazing customers who have been waiting patiently for a year to use their ticket vouchers. Like most businesses we were severely impacted by the pandemic. This was a difficult decision, but we simply feel it is the best way to support the bars, satisfy our customers, and hopefully keep our business going.
Basically nothing we can do nowadays would truly be considered safe. Everyone's definition of "safe" is also different. That said, we feel like there is really no reason we should not host a small scale event this year if everyone follows health and safety guidelines set by the State of Ohio, and each individual venue. We also completely understand why people would choose not to attend this event. We actually postponed last year's crawl before Governor DeWine officially ordered everything to shut down. We have, and always will put our attendees safety as our #1 priority.
One of our main reasons for doing the event this year is to support the bars. Two of our traditional stops have closed permanently. Several others are closed temporarily. Each year we hear from bars that tell us the day of our event was their best day of the entire year. The bars lost that day last year when we postponed our event. Losing it again this year would be even more devastating for them. We could not run our event without them, and it was great to hear that they were all excited when we decided to host the event this year.
Many of you have waited patiently, and stuck with us for a year now since we postponed the crawl last year. We understand not everyone will want to attend this event, but we know some people will. We felt like we needed to provide them the opportunity to do so. The bars are open, and they need all of our help to get back on their feet. If everyone follows the health and safety rules at each venue there is really no reason we could not have an awesome event this year!
This was the only way we felt we could actually do the event this year. It allows us to have a completely safe and contactless sign in process. This allows everyone to participate if they choose. You do not even have to come to the event to support us, and other local businesses. You can sign up to get your awesome shirt and supplies and then celebrate however you want. At home, with friends, or at a local bar of your choosing. By mailing everything we allow last year's crawlers to use their ticket vouchers to celebrate any way they want.
Some people think we are only doing this to make money. That is the furthest thing from the truth. We are taking a significant loss by mailing all the shirts and supplies. We are doing that to be safe, and also to honor the ticket vouchers from last year. Others think we will get the bars in trouble, or cause them to lose their liquor licenses. In reality, our main reason for doing the event is to help the bars. We are working closely with them to limit ticket sales well below their maximum capacities.
